Start with the class and the competition invitation

This guide is based on World Boxing's published competition rules from November 2024, rule 13. Always check for newer amendments and the invitation to your event. Club training and competition formats in Norway must be confirmed with your coach and the organiser.

Gloves and headguard

Rule 13 describes red or blue gloves according to corner, in 10 or 12 oz depending on the class. Headguards are worn in U17, U19 and elite women, while elite men do not wear headguards. Competition gloves have hook-and-loop closure. Choosing based on body weight alone in the shop is therefore not enough for competition. Read rule 13 of World Boxing's competition rules.

What do you bring yourself?

The invitation should state whether the organiser provides hand protection or whether the team brings it. The rules also distinguish between hook-and-loop wraps and professional hand wrapping. Ask the organiser to confirm which gloves and headguards will be used at the event before buying personal competition sets.

What does the World Boxing mark mean?

World Boxing runs its own licensing programme for equipment manufacturers. Ask for documentation for the product model and its intended use; a supplier's affiliation alone does not confirm that all its products are permitted in your class. Read about World Boxing's licensing programme.

TOP TEN and Sting in World Boxing

We stock both TOP TEN and Sting. Both have a documented connection to World Boxing, in different roles.

TOP TEN – approved equipment manufacturer

On 19 August 2025 World Boxing announced that TOP TEN had become an «Official Equipment Manufacturer». The federation describes technical and chemical testing of relevant boxing equipment, including gloves and headguards. The agreement is not exclusive and makes TOP TEN eligible to supply equipment to competitions covered by the scheme. Read World Boxing's announcement about TOP TEN.

Sting – official competition supplier

World Boxing announced a four-year agreement with Sting in November 2023. Sting is the «Official Competition Equipment Supplier», supplying events including the World Boxing Cup and the U19 and elite championships. The federation's 2025 announcement also explicitly distinguishes this role from the TOP TEN agreement. Read about the agreement with Sting.

TOP TEN's experience with boxing equipment goes back a long way: World Boxing refers to Olympic approval from 1988. The agreement with World Boxing dates from 2025. It is therefore important to distinguish the brand's long history from the date of this approval scheme.

Combat Store and Sting also work with the Norwegian Boxing Federation as equipment supplier and sponsor. Read about the Norwegian partnership.

What this means when choosing equipment

You may have a personal preference for TOP TEN or Sting for training, but at events the organiser may decide on or supply the competition equipment. Check the documentation for the specific model, the correct glove weight and the headguard requirement for the class before you buy. Clubs should list personal training sets and event equipment as separate needs in their order.

How to recognise the approval mark

Compare the marking on your model with the documentation and the current event requirements. The image shows a documented example; placement and design may vary between products. Feel free to take a photo of the label and item number when you ask your club or us.

Checklist before buying and competing

  • Identify the event, rules, discipline and class together with your coach.
  • Check the exact model and item number, colour, size and any required label. A brand name alone is not sufficient documentation.
  • Compare the product information with the federation's approval and the event invitation. Ask for documentation if anything is unclear.
  • Confirm what the organiser provides and what you need to bring yourself. Try the equipment before the event.

For clubs and buyers

Make an equipment list per discipline and class before a group order. Record the model, variant, documentation link and date checked. Keep competition equipment separate from other training equipment, and check fit and wear before lending it out. If requirements are unclear, send the organiser the model number and a photo of the label before you order.

Training, competition and product marking

For training, the choice of equipment should be agreed with your coach based on the drills and level of contact. A competition mark does not replace this assessment. The guide explains the rules; the product's own documentation must show what applies to the chosen variant. A clickable badge in the shop is a route to information, not a new certificate.
