Questions and answers

Is the helmet mandatory for beginners?
A helmet is strongly recommended for sparring and competition to protect against blows, and is often required in organised training. For bag training alone it is not necessary, but gives extra safety.
What is the difference between boxing gloves and kicking gloves?
Boxing gloves are designed for punches with the fist, while kicking gloves (MMA gloves) have open fingers to allow grappling and clinch work. The choice depends on which martial art you practise.
How do I care for my boxing gear?
Gloves and pads should be aired out well after training to avoid moisture and bacteria – store them somewhere dry. Wash mouthguards and other small gear with water and mild soap, and let everything dry completely before storing.
How do I choose the right size of boxing gloves?
Boxing gloves are measured in ounces (oz), and the choice depends on weight and type of training – lighter practitioners typically use 8-10 oz, while heavier ones use 12-16 oz. For sparring, larger gloves (14-16 oz) are recommended for better cushioning, while 8-10 oz is common for bag training.
