PNP Breaking Board Level 2 – Blue Pad (25 ft-lb)
The natural next step after the 12.5 board. 25 ft-lb gives twice the resistance, while the blue foam pad still cushions the impact on hand and foot over many strikes in a row. The board splits in two with a correct strike and slides back together, so it withstands training week after week.
Who is it for?
- Practitioners who have mastered the 12.5 board and are ready for more resistance
- Students building power, precision and timing towards a grading
- Clubs that want a durable board for many repetitions in training
How hard is it?
25 ft-lb with pad is level 2 of 5 in the PNP series: twice the force of the 12.5 board, the same breaking strength as the natural 25 board without pad.
- Choose this if the 12.5 board breaks consistently and with good technique, and you want more resistance without losing the pad.
- Switch to 25 ft-lb without pad when you want a slimmer board with a more direct feel of the strike, for example ahead of a grading or competition.
- The white 50 ft-lb board is the next level for advanced practitioners.
Why a pad?
The foam pad reduces the strain on hands and feet when you strike many repetitions. That way you can train more on technique and power in the same session. Apart from the pad, the board is the same as 25 ft-lb without pad.
How a reusable breaking board works
- The board consists of two halves that lock together along a groove. With a correct strike, the halves separate.
- Slide the halves back together along the groove, and the board is ready for the next strike.
- The resistance is the same from strike to strike, unlike wooden boards, which vary from board to board.
- No splinters and no sharp edges. Corners and edges are rounded.
- Made of impact-resistant technical polymer, manufactured in the UK.
Safe use
- Warm up, and practise the technique on a pad or mitts before moving on to the board.
- Use a breaking board holder, or an experienced holder who holds the board steady by the outer edges, with fingers away from the striking surface.
- Check that the halves are fully joined before each strike.
- Do not skip levels. If the board is too hard, technique suffers and the risk of injury increases.

Which breaking board should I choose?
| Level | Board | Breaking strength | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Natural with yellow pad | 12.5 ft-lb | Children from age 4 and beginners breaking their first board, under instructor supervision |
| 2 | Natural with blue pad | 25 ft-lb | Next step after 12.5: double the resistance, still with a pad |
| 3 | Natural without pad | 25 ft-lb | Intermediate, gradings, and tie-break board in competition |
| 4 | White | 50 ft-lb | Advanced practitioners. ITF-approved, used for competition and demonstrations |
| 5 | Black | 80 ft-lb | Elite athletes and power breaking. The hardest board in the series |
ft-lb (foot-pound) shows how hard you have to strike to break the board: the higher the number, the harder the board. Converted to joules, 12.5 ft-lb is approx. 17 joules, 25 approx. 34 joules, 50 approx. 68 joules and 80 approx. 108 joules. 25 requires twice as much force as 12.5, 50 twice as much as 25, and 80 is 60% harder than 50. Move up one level at a time, when your current board breaks consistently and with good technique.
Note: Please note that the right of return does not apply to these boards, as they lose quality and function after use.
